Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis affects millions of people around the world.
It is estimated nearly 3% of the population. This disorder can
effect areas other than your underarm; such as: facial, hands
and feet.
What causes hyperhidrosis?
It is usually termed as a sweating problem but for a lot of
people, it can show many symptoms described above. Under ordinary
conditions the hypothalamus which is the part of the brain that
regulates sweat-related functions, sends sensory signals to the
sweat nerves. These nerves-part of the sympathetic nervous system
located in the chest cavity; send signals to the sweat glands.
For people with hyperhidrosis, these signals get over stimulated.
Social impact of hyperhidrosis
For those who have an excessive sweating problem know all
about the social issues that arise. The problem I see, many patients
are frustrated because of lack of correct information.
Treatments
There are many over-the-counter and prescription medications
available. Please see the antiperspirant page for products I
try to recommend. If I have left anything out, please send me
an e-mail and I will ad it to the list. |
